چکیده
Paeonia Radix is one of the most commonly used herbal drug in traditional Chinese medicine1 and folkloric medicine of different countries since ancient times2. A number of chemical and pharmacological studies have been conducted on the roots of Paeonia species. Monoterpen glycosides are the active constituents, among them; paeoniflorin is the main compound in genus Paeonia3. In traditional medicine aqueous decoctions of Paeonia have been used against several types of seizures1,4,5.

Anticonvulsant Activity of Viola tricolor against Seizures Induced by Pentylenetetrazol and Maximal Electroshock in Mice
Background: Recently, there has been much more interest in the use of medicinal plants in search of novel therapies for human neurodegenerative diseases such as epilepsy. In the present study, we investigated the anticonvulsant effects of Viola tricolor (V. tricolor) on seizure models induced by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) and maximal electroshock stimulation (MES). Methods: Totally, 260 mice were ...
متن کاملAnticonvulsant Activity of the Aqueous Leaf Extract Of Croton Zambesicus (Euphorbiaceae) In Mice and Rats
To determine the anticonvulsant activity of the leaf extract of Croton zambesicus in mice and rats, and in order to verify the traditional use of the plant in the treatment of epilepsy. The pentyleneterazole (PTZ) and the maximal electroshock seizure (MES) models were used for assessing the anticonvulsant effects of the aqueous leaf extract in mice and rats. In the PTZ test, the leaf extract ...
متن کاملAnticonvulsant Effect of Alcea aucheri on Pentylenetetrazole and Maximal Electroshock Seizures in Mice
Introduction: This study was designed to investigate the possible anticonvulsant effect of acute administration of an aqueous extract of flowers of Alcea aucheri (EFA) in a seizure model. Methods: Seizures were induced in male adult Swiss mice by administration of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) or Maximal Electroshock (MES). Mice were randomly subjected to receive saline, EFA (8.75-175 mg.kg-1), or d...
متن کاملScreening of the anticonvulsant potential of some common medicinal plants of Iran in pentylenetetrazole and maximal electroshock seizure models in male mice
Introduction: Jugulans regia (Jugulandaceae), Astragaus hamosus (Papilionaceae), Crocus pallasii subsp. haussknechtii boiss. (Iridaceae) and Cassia angustifolia Vahl. (Caesalpinaceae) have been suggested as antiepileptic remedies in traditional medicine of Iran. The possible anticonvulsant effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves of J. regia, fruits of A. hamosus, corm of C. haussk...
متن کاملAnticonvulsant Effect of Antiaris toxicaria (Pers.) Lesch. (Moraceae) Aqueous Extract in Rodents
Antiaris toxicaria (Moraceae) was evaluated for anticonvulsant activity in rodents. Animal models used include maximal electroshock test (MEST); pentylenetetrazole-induced (PTZ) convulsions; picrotoxin-induced (PCT) convulsions; strychnine- (STR-) and 4-aminopyridine-induced convulsions. Increase in latency to seizures as well as reduction in duration and frequency of seizures indicated anticon...
